Laser hair removal packages or membership? Which is better?

If you have ever had laser hair removal you probably picked the area you wanted to be hair free and bought a package of treatments. Packages are sold in a series of 6 sessions and some spas will throw in a couple of touch ups for good measure. Great! Now you just pay upfront and schedule your first treatment. Easy right? Sometimes easy may not be so easy.

Laser hair removal is proven technology that works. That’s probably why it’s one of the most popular cosmetic services performed in NYC and the nation today. But, in order to be effective there are some clear rules one must follow to achieve the desired effect.

If laser is something you have considered, you have probably done some research and read lots of online reviews. Well done! That’s the best way to select a reputable spa for your laser treatments. In your research you will inevitably come across reviews complaining about results. Or the lack of results. Why does this happen?
It can happen for lots of reasons: Equipment that isn’t properly maintained, technician experience and a very common one is a client who has already had laser on an area and is doing a second round for “extra” results. If you are considering doing more laser on an area that you have had treated previously, be prepared for less than optimal results. Especially if you have already achieved 70%-90% reduction. You will just be wasting your money.
The biggest reason clients see less than optimal results is that they don’t stick to the treatment plan. Instead of scheduling sessions 4-8 weeks apart they schedule sporadically. Missing months at a time and missing the critical growth cycles that make laser truly successful. “That’s a big problem in this business, the lack of consistency,” says Matthew Pruitt, owner of Skin Bar NYC. “We used to sell packages and that was great from a business perspective since clients pay up front for their services. The problem is that missed sessions and inconsistent treatment drastically affect outcomes. Having Membership eliminates this variable and at the same time keeps your hard earned money in your pocket until you have your service.” The membership concept ensures that you keep up to date on your sessions, because every 30 days you are charged for your membership area. “We have seen an enormous difference in our client’s results routinely getting 90% or better reduction.” Skin Bar’s laser hair removal memberships are 6 month commitments and after that time they go month to month.

Establishing trust is the biggest impact Skin Bar has seen from the membership concept. “Initially people were a little spooked at the idea of the membership and skeptical of a 6 month commitment, (remember: when you buy a package you’re making the same 6 treatment commitment). After a treatment or two most clients begin to add additional areas for treatment,” says Pruitt. “Full body laser hair removal is common at Skin Bar.”

Unlike other spa services clients seek laser hair removal for one reason- to be hair free. And to achieve hairlessness you must follow a consistent treatment schedule. It is the proven method to achieve the greatest results in the fastest amount of time.

If you are considering laser hair removal here are a few pearls to remember when you select a spa for your treatments.

• Decide if a membership or package is best for you and your lifestyle. If you are a pretty organized person a package might be good for you. If you work better leaving the planning to someone else then consider a membership.
• Cash a little tight? If budgeting your laser treatments a membership is the best option hands down since you pay as you go.
• Have you had laser before and looking for to fine tune your results. Schedule a consultation and get a second opinion to be sure you’re not wasting your hard earned money.
