A Girl’s Guide To Festivals

Festival season is well underway, as hundreds of thousands gather under the hot summer sun and dance the days away to their favorite music. Our fav? The annual Governor’s Ball this past weekend where some of our favorite celebs like Drake, Lana Del Rey and Florence and the Machine performed for what Drake called, “the best festival crowd I’ve ever seen in my life.”

But how do we fight the elements and remain fresh-faced from day one to day three? It’s easy to forget the teams of experts and air-conditioned accommodations that keep the performers looking flawless on stage. For everyone else, it’s common to feel and look tired, have dehydrated skin, and be in desperate need of a shower. These cringe-worthy thoughts inspired our very own ‘A Girl’s Guide to Festivals’ so you can enjoy a carefree festival season!

Fun In The Sun

We all know how important it is to protect our skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays all year round, especially in the summer. Festivals are outdoor and don’t usually have much tent coverage, so you need to make sure that you are taking care of coverage yourself. We can’t stress how important it is to wear sunscreen during the day, especially between the peak hours of 10am-3pm. Too much fun in the sun can cause various health issues such as sunburn, sunstroke, heat exhaustion and skin cancer. So… Wear your sunscreen! We recommend a factor from 30-50 by Image Skincare.

Kissable Lips!

Don’t forget about your beautiful lips – they need protection too! No one likes rough, chapped, burnt lips, and at a weekend-long festival it is easy for them to be harmed.

Slip a lip balm with SPF in your fanny pack – your lips will thank you later!

Add A Hat To Your Look!

A hat is a great way to protect yourself from the sun while looking awesome. Hats are 100% in trend for festivals and are so fun to rock. They provide shade and protection for your scalp, face, and sometimes even upper body (the bigger the better!) They also provide shelter for frizzy, oily, slept-in-a-tent hair!

Too Late? Reduce The Aftermath Effects Of Sunburn

If you are sunburned, be sure to use after-sun lotion to rehydrate and repair your skin. Also try an antioxidant for your face, such as SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic, which not only feels great, but also does wonders for your skin!

Hydration

Possibly the most simple and most important tip – drink plenty of water! Besides the sun, heat, and dancing, drinking alcohol contributes greatly to dehydration, affecting your body and showing through your skin. Drink as much water as you can and keep a thermal water spray in your bag. Giving your face a light spritz will help hydrate your skin, keep you looking fresh, and won’t interfere with makeup. It is also a great way to give yourself a jolt of energy when feeling tired!

Before Bed (or should we say, before sleeping bag?)

Showers are often not an option at festivals, unless you’re lucky enough to be in the VIP camp! Make sure to wash off makeup and oil at night. Find a tap with some water (a water bottle works too), and wash your face with Image’s Ageless Total Cleanser – perfect for any skin type, it exfoliates, gently removes makeup, and tones!

We also recommend use a hydrating serum such as Vital C’s Anti Aging Serum, or Vital C’s Hydrating AC&E Serum. They do wonders for your skin and provide the hydration it is craving.

Sleep Deprivation

It’s likely that during festivals, you’re not going to get your recommended eight hours of sleep each night! Loud music, noisy people, and sun glaring down on your tent early in the morning, are just some of the reasons you might not get much sleep, leaving you tired during and after the festival. This can result in bags under your eyes. Brighten tired eyes with Image’s The MAX Stem Cell Eye Crème, which will reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and puffiness. Helping to restore your eyes to their former glory!

Protect yourself from the sun! Hydrate! Moisturize! Obviously wear a fabulous boho outfit… And have fun!
