Winter Skin Advisory
Winter weather was slow to arrive this year but when it finally landed it landed with record low temperatures not seen in 100 years.
The change of seasons is well known for disrupting the skins balance, but extreme weather is problematic. Dry, chapped and dehydration are all clear signs that your skin is suffering from the transition. Dry, flaky skin makes you look dull and accentuates fine lines and wrinkles- and I don’t know anyone that thinks that is a cute look.
So, what’s a person to do? Follow these simple tips and your skin will get right back to its glowing former self.
Update your skincare routine
For most of the year I use a gel cleanser with a built-in toner and a sunscreen that also has a mild moisturizer. In the winter I change up my routine completely and so should you. I store my usual skin care regimen away till Spring and opt for a creamy cleanser for a little extra hydration and nourishment. I add a medium to heavy moisturizer with an oil or peptide base to trap in moisture. During the day I top that off with my usual sunscreen. I recommend finishing off with a lip complex or lip balm to keep that kisser kissable and irresistible.
Protect yourself from the sun
It is easy to forget to use sunscreen in the colder months, but that would be a mistake. The sun can still cause lots of damage in the winter. Snow on the ground is super reflective making the sun formidable even on the coldest days of the year.
Schedule regular facials
Yes, the cold does bad things to your skin but the heaters in your home and at your office play a distinct role in further damaging your skin. Dehydrated skin is tough to battle. Even if you are an avid water drinker and properly moisturize your skin. This is where a little professional help will go a long way. Just ask our Skinbers.
Any Esthetician worth their salt always begins your treatment will a thorough skin analysis. At Skin Bar ninety percent of our members returning after the holidays are suffering from dehydrated skin. The good news is a proper hydrating facial infuses vitamins and minerals into your skin that will plump the skin and revive its glow. Weather it is a hyaluronic acid, ultrasound, Pure Oxygen boost or stem cells your Skintician will know exactly what your skin needs.
Hydration is key but don’t forget to exfoliate. Your skin also needs help to exfoliate dead cells that accumulate in the winter. Removing dead cells allows your skin to absorb the nutrients it is so hungry for.
We all know the importance of keeping our skin hydrated in the winter, but it is just as important to hydrate from the inside out. Drink lots of water your skin will thank you for it.
