Let’s face it nobody wants to wake up in the morning, greeted by a face full of acne. I’m going to share some tips with you that will control acne for good. Acne makes you insecure, and is a complete downer to your self-esteem. When I was growing up I struggled with acne and it made me self-conscious. I’m here to tell you that there is a silver lining. These tips and treatments that I’ve become familiar with over the years will help eliminate your struggle.

First things first, a strict product regimen is crucial when combating acne. The build up of oil in your pores leads to the clogging and breakouts you are trying to combat. Start off with using a cleanser that contains salicylic acid, such as, Clarifying Cleanser by Skinceuticals. Salicylic acid will dissolve oil that builds up in the pores, reduce inflammation, and calm redness and swelling. Wet your face with warm water , apply a dime sized amount cleanser and massage in a circular motion for one minute. Then rinse with cool to warm water.

Once your skin is squeaky clean it’s time to medicate. My favorite spot treatment serum for the occasional breakout is Blemish and Age Defense. I’ve never seen a spot treatment serum quite like this. This potent salicylic acid serum will stop a pimple in its tracks. I recommend it to my clients with acne concerns and they all rave about it. Always start off with clean hands. You only need a drop, a little goes a long way. Start by soaking a cotton tip in the solution and dab on the infected areas twice a day. Allow the product to absorb for a few minutes before applying anything else.

Finally apply a moisturizer with spf to keep the skin hydrated, protect its barriers and prevent sun sensitivity. A good choice is Prevention+ SPF 50 by Image . A lot of acne products will cause skin to become sensitive to sun, so an SPF is very important during the day.

My all-time favorite product for acne has to be RETINOL!! Retinols help to clear and reduce acne by unclogging and preventing dead skin cells from clogging pores. They are best used at nighttime after cleansing, and then followed up by a very hydrating, and calming moisturizer, such as, Ormedic Bio-Peptide Crème. This very important because retinols can cause dryness, peeling, and inflammation, so moisturizing is key in avoiding and/or alleviating these common side effects. Not only will retinol help with acne but it also helps reducing acne scars, pigmentation, and will smooth fine lines and wrinkles!

Now that we have covered the basics of a good skin regimen. Let’s talk about treatments that improve healing the acne and keeping it at bay for good!

One of my favorite treatments to perform, and that I’ve witnessed improve the appearance of acne blemishes tremendously is Isolaz. This treatment is suitable for all skin types, so anyone from really fair to really dark skin can do this treatment safely. Isolaz technology combines vacuum with broadband light. The vacuum helps to loosen and extract dirt, blackheads, and excess oil from deep down within the pores. Then light helps by destroying acne causing bacteria, as well as reducing facial redness. At least six of these treatments; spaced out every two weeks are recommended to see optimal results, but clients can start to see improvement after just 2 sessions. They are completely painless, and have no downtime. Clients may leave a little pink, but can continue on with their day as they normally would.

Let’s get deep and peel. Deep pore facials will focus on extractions and keeping the pores clean. Clean pores will equal a cleaner, fresher looking complexion, and prevent future breakouts. A deep pore facial allows your skin care specialist to perform the extractions in a safer way, by first prepping the skin rather than clients just digging into their skin in front of their bathroom mirrors. That will also cut back on those pesky marks that are left behind from self-extractions at home. Chemical peels will cut back and help heal current acne breakouts. Peels will exfoliate and help to unclog the pores and remove dead skin cells that can also lead to clogging. Again I have found that a peel containing salicylic acid is the best at healing acne blemishes.
